Lace Front VS Regular Wig

14 March 2023

Is a Lace Front Wig for you?

Short hair or long hair; curly, wavy or straight; human hair or synthetic; red, blonde, dark, black or grey - and that’s just the start when it comes to wig options!

One of the questions we are most commonly asked is: What’s the difference between a lace front wig vs a regular wig?

Firstly, let’s look at a lace front wig. A lace front wig is named for the fine, sheer mesh-like material – or “lace” – around the front hairline, which allows for individual hairs to be tied in the wig for a more natural look. This lace might extend from temple to temple, or even ear to ear. (It is also possible to choose full lace wigs, but these tend to have less volume and be more expensive.)

What are the benefits of lace front wigs?

A lace front wig can be styled away from the face because the wig cap is not seen, giving the wearer more versality when styling and also a very realistic look. There’s no need for a fringe, and you can also pull back the hair or tuck it behind your ears.

There are four main benefits to wearing a lace front wig compared to a regular wig. They are:

  • Lightweight and breathable: As a lace front wig is constructed from a light mesh material, it allows your scalp to breathe and not get as hot as a regular wig.
  • Ease of use: A lace front wig is custom made and ready to wear for your particular use.
  • More natural: A lace front wig is more natural looking than a regular wig, which can look quite abrupt and obvious around the hairline.
  • Styling options: There are more styling options due to the subtle hair line of a lace front wig; however it’s not really suited to ponytails and other updo’s.

How do I decide what’s best for me?

A regular wig may offer a hair style or colour you prefer but as a long-term daily solution, it can be hot for the scalp, especially in Brisbane’s climate.

A lace front wig offers more versality and a more natural look that can be worn all day, every day (though we don’t recommend wearing your wig to bed).
